In a move to scrutinize and regulate new beverages and alcoholic drinks flooding the market, the government has announced a comprehensive investigation.
Information Minister Jenfan Muswere revealed during a post-cabinet briefing that several departments are collaboratively working on this inquiry.
Kambucha, a popular fermented drink, has come under particular scrutiny.
Last month, the Masvingo City Council imposed a ban on the consumption of Kombucha during working hours, citing concerns about its potency. Incidents involving city workers reporting to work under the influence prompted this action. Council doctors advised that Kombucha is, in fact, an alcoholic substance.
As the investigation unfolds, those found in violation of regulations could potentially face bans on the sale and consumption of these new beverages, including Kombucha.
