The inaugural Great Dyke Mining and Agriculture Awards to be hosted by YaFM, the Pulse of the Great Dyke, in association with online television portal Great Dyke TV have been moved forward to the 25th of February 2021.
The awards promote excellence and aim to unlock the growth potential in mining and agricultural companies operating in the mineral rich geological complex called the Great Dyke, which trends from north to south for over 500 kilometres.
The awards which were slated for the 12th of February were deferred to the 25th of February to give ample time for companies and individual wishing to participate to complete the nomination process.
“The level four lockdown imposed in January has restricted business activities with many companies affected by the lockdown and their employees staying at home, so we saw it prudent to give more time to those who want to either support or enter the awards,” said Patience Tsikira-Chikombero, Head of Events at Mejrkh Communications and Media Advisory, which runs Great Dyke TV.
Some of the country’s biggest mining entities such as PGM producers Mimosa, Unki and Zimplats are located in the Great Dyke region which also supports vibrant agricultural activities.
The awards were introduced after observing that there are no dedicated accolades for mining and agricultural entities operating in the Great Dyke and as a way to stimulate growth and achieve higher production.
The organisers have come up with ten categories as listed below:
- Gold Buyer of the Year
- Business Person of the Year
- Small Scale Miner of the Year
- Mining Equipment Supplier of the Year
- CSR Award of the Year
- Mining Consumable Supplier of the Year
- Healthy and Safety Award of the Year
- Financial Service Provider of the Year
- Small Scale Agro Producer of the Year
- Large Scale Agro Producer of the Year
The inaugural 2020 edition of the awards will be held virtually to protect and safeguard stakeholders from covid-19. They will be streamed on Great Dyke TV, YAFM, Slymedia, Zimeye and 263 chat Facebook pages.
