A 36-year-old man from Gweru was recently fined for physically abusing his wife during a domestic dispute. The incident occurred on October 29, 2024, around 11:00 PM, when the couple was asleep in their bedroom.

The court heard that, upon discovering keys in the blankets, the accused questioned his wife about them. She explained that she had forgotten to return spare keys to their tenant. However, he accused her of having an affair, claiming the keys belonged to her boyfriend. This accusation escalated into a heated argument, during which he assaulted her, striking her with fists and kicking her multiple times.

The victim subsequently reported the abuse to the police. The Gweru Magistrates’ Court sentenced the man to pay a fine of USD 120 or face four months of imprisonment in default of payment.

In a separate case, seven individuals appeared before the Mvuma Magistrates’ Court for illegally prospecting for gold without the necessary permits. The accused, aged between 18 and 31, were charged under the Mines and Minerals Act for conducting alluvial mining activities without authorization.

The group was apprehended on October 26, 2024, at Matote Farm along the Mubvumbi River, where they were found mining within the prohibited 200 meters from the riverbed. Each of the accused was granted bail set at USD 100 and has been remanded to appear in court again on November 6, 2024.
