The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a 23-year-old man’s body at Blooming Lilly Mine in Shurugwi on September 15, 2024. The deceased, identified as Oliver Gwama, hailed from Village Maunganidze under Chief Watangwa in Chivi.
Speaking to Great Dyke News ZRP Midlands spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said, Gwama was last seen in the early hours of September 15 at Majachani Business Centre, drinking beer with three other men: Jabulani Mutami (39) of Village Sheki under Chief Gwesela in Zhombe, Tawanda Zimuto (27) from Village Madzivire under Chief Nhema in Shurugwi, and Nicholas Gwande, whose full details are yet to be established.
He said a dispute allegedly broke out between Gwama and Gwande over a US$15 debt, leading to an altercation. Gwande reportedly began assaulting Gwama, and the other two men, Mutami and Zimuto, are said to have joined in the attack.
Inspector Mahoko said Gwama managed to flee the scene but was later found dead at Blooming Lilly Mine, approximately 400 metres from the business centre, at around 2:00 PM the same day.
