A 25-year-old Mutare woman, Maria Mwarehwa, has been fined USD105 or sentenced to 30 days in prison for stealing impounded goods from the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA).
The goods, including baby diapers worth ZAR 1,000, were seized by police on December 2, 2024, during an anti-smuggling operation. The next day, while ZIMRA officials assessed a USD50 duty for the diapers, Mwarehwa took advantage of their distraction to steal the items. She was later apprehended at Meikles Park, Mutare, and the stolen goods were recovered.
Authorities continue to urge the public to refrain from illegal activities and support efforts to combat crime and corruption.
