Locky Chigwengwe, a 19-year-old resident of Nyawiswa village, has been sentenced to nine years in prison after being found guilty of stock theft by the Karoi Magistrates’ Court.
The incident occurred on the evening of April 12, 2024, at Dabvu homestead. According to court records, the complainant had secured his herd of cattle for the night. Chigwengwe, under the cover of darkness, untied a black cow with curved horns from the kraal and drove it away unnoticed.
The following day, Chigwengwe used the stolen cow to pay lobola to Ian Wamiridza of Muchena village. The theft was discovered the next morning when the complainant noticed the missing cow and reported it to the police.
A swift investigation led to the recovery of the stolen cow on April 14, 2024, in Wamiridza’s possession. Upon questioning, Wamiridza implicated Chigwengwe, resulting in his arrest. The cow was valued at USD 400.
Chigwengwe was found guilty and subsequently sentenced to nine years imprisonment for the crime.
