The Shurugwi South constituency legislator Wilson Mhuri has expressed his satisfaction with the employment opportunities emerging from the reconstruction of the Shurugwi-Mhandamabwe road.
In an interview with Great Dyke News, Mhuri highlighted that they have successfully negotiated with the construction company responsible for the highway refurbishment. As part of the agreement, all non-skilled labor positions on the project will be filled by local residents.
Mhuri further revealed that the project, which is expected to span twelve months, has already provided employment for 10 locals. Over the course of the project, it is anticipated that an additional 200 local residents will secure employment, thereby significantly boosting the local economy.The Shurugwi-Mhandamabwe Road is a significant highway that connects the Midlands and Masvingo provinces. The road spans 43 kilometers and links several key locations, including the Beitbridge Border Post with Gweru, Kwekwe, Chegutu, Kadoma, Chinhoyi, Karoi, and the Chirundu Border Post.
Recently, the government and a local construction company, Road Trackers Construction (RTC), initiated a major rehabilitation project for this road. The project includes the construction, upgrading, and widening of the road, and is expected to be carried out over a period of 12 months
