The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed two serious road traffic accidents that occurred on 19 October 2024, resulting in one death and eight injuries.
In the first incident, a Stallion Cruise bus carrying 16 passengers veered off the Mutare-Masvingo Road at the 60-kilometre peg, overturning once before landing on its left side. Eight passengers were injured and taken to Mutambara Mission Hospital for treatment. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
In a separate incident in Harare, a bus conductor tragically lost his life along Nemakonde Road near Conway College. The 27-year-old conductor allegedly opened the door of a moving bus to pick up a passenger, fell onto the tarmac, and was fatally struck by the bus’s rear wheels. He sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, where he died upon arrival.
The ZRP has warned bus and commuter omnibus crews against opening doors while vehicles are in motion, urging them to prioritize passenger safety to avoid similar accidents.
