War veterans are to receive chrome mining claims from the Government of Zimbabwe, Great Dyke News 24 reports.
Speaking at the post-cabinet media briefing in Harare yesterday, Minister of Mines and Mining Development Winston Chitando said the move is meant to sustain and expand ferrochrome mining production in the chrome and steel sector.
‘The 20% of the claims of the ceded from a total of 11 747 hectares will be allocated to war veterans and there will be re-allocated to other companies which will receive mining claims to sustain and expand ferrochrome mining production in the chrome and steel sector,’ said Minister Chitando.
“In line with the US$12 billion milestones by 2023 in the mining sector, the steel and chrome sector is targeting to achieve one million tones of ore from the 360 000 tones we had in 2018 during this period.”
‘Therefore, the ore that will be produced will not be exported but it will be fed in local smelters to achieve US$1 billion dollar sub-sector by 2023,’ said the Minister.
