Zimbabweans Urged to Prioritize Local Businesses This Festive Season.

As the festive season draws near, Zimbabweans are being encouraged to prioritize local products and businesses to boost the economy and safeguard jobs. The increased spending during this time, fueled by bonuses and year-long savings, presents a crucial opportunity to support homegrown enterprises.

Buy Zimbabwe General Manager, Mr. Alois Burutsa, underscored the significance of this initiative, emphasizing its role in sustaining businesses and employment.

“This is the time when local companies depend on increased sales to keep their operations running. Without this support, we risk not only their survival but also the jobs they provide,” he said.

For many businesses, the festive season serves as a critical lifeline, especially as sales typically slow during the early months of the new year. Mr. Burutsa cautioned that failing to support local enterprises could result in severe consequences. “If our companies do not achieve sufficient sales during this period, we could see significant job losses,” he warned.

Highlighting the broader economic impact, Mr. Burutsa noted that buying local products directly benefits the national economy.

“When we buy local, we ensure that companies stay afloat, retain Zimbabwean jobs, and contribute to the national fiscus. This creates a positive economic cycle, as successful businesses reinvest in their communities,” he explained.

He also urged consumers to make thoughtful spending choices, using their bonuses to bolster local industries and help companies prepare for the traditional January and February sales downturn.

“Let’s use our savings wisely by supporting local manufacturers, enabling them to build resilience for the months ahead,” he advised.

Mr. Burutsa further called on local businesses to play their part by keeping prices affordable to ensure all Zimbabweans can enjoy the festive season without feeling compelled to shop across borders.

“Local companies must maintain competitive pricing so that Zimbabweans have no reason to look elsewhere for their holiday needs,” he emphasized.
