Simon Tagura Homera, a Customs Official employed by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA), appeared before the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court facing charges of criminal abuse of duty as a public officer.

The State alleges that between November 1, 2023, and February 2024, Homera fraudulently facilitated the movement of 25 trucks loaded with chrome concentrate.

The court heard that the trucks, belonging to Indian national Harnkar Warjukar, traveled from Mvurwi to Reddy Cargo Services Warehouse in City Deep, Johannesburg, South Africa. It is alleged that Homera used a bill of entry previously utilized by Zim Alloys in February 2023 to clear the trucks.

Homera was denied bail and is set to appear in court again on August 5, 2024. The case has drawn significant attention due to the serious nature of the allegations and their implications for customs integrity and border control in Zimbabwe.
