ZimTrade, Zimbabwe’s national trade development and promotion organization, has emphasized the strategic significance of Expo 2025 Osaka as a key platform for the country’s re-engagement efforts on the global stage.

Speaking recently ZimTrade Chief Executive Officer Alan Majuru, who also serves as the Commissioner General of the Zimbabwe Pavilion, underscored the event’s potential to boost trade, tourism, and investment for Zimbabwe.

“This is not only a place for us to look at trade, investment, and tourism, but it’s a place where we are going to use to sell our narrative,” Majuru said. “People need to know what Zimbabwe is, what we are doing, where we are coming from, and where we are going. It’s also going to be a platform for us to learn international best practices so that we can see how best we can engage with our partners when we do business.”

Majuru expressed confidence in Zimbabwe’s readiness, noting that feedback from Expo organizers indicates that preparations are on track for the official opening on April 13, 2025.

Expo 2025 Osaka, organized and sanctioned by the Bureau of International Expositions, will run from April 13 to October 13, 2025, spanning 184 days. This marks the third time Osaka has hosted a World Expo, following events in 1970 and 1990.

To date, 158 countries and regions have confirmed their participation.

Zimbabwe’s pavilion will focus on promoting tourism, trade, and investment, aligning with the country’s broader economic goals. “We are setting up a pavilion that will help Zimbabwe actualize its aspirations,” Majuru said.

“Our focus is on visiting, trading, and investment—the same goals we aim to achieve when the Expo concludes. With what we’ve seen today and during this meeting, we are confident that Zimbabwe will come back with massive returns.”

Majuru also highlighted the importance of cultural exchange in fostering international business relationships. “Business is about learning each other’s culture,” he said.

“Trade and investment are going to be two-way. By the end of the Expo in October, we hope to evaluate and feedback to Zimbabwe what we have gained from our participation.”
