In a passionate address at a Field Day event held at Zvishavane Prison, the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) Midlands Province Officer Commanding, Commissioner Somemore Gate, underscored the pivotal role of education in transforming former prisoners into productive members of society.


Commissioner Gate highlighted the importance of investing in education within the correctional system, stressing that it not only benefits individuals but also contributes to societal well-being by reducing the likelihood of reoffending.

“By focusing on educational programs, we can help former inmates become contributing members of society,” he remarked.


“Productive education starts with access to numerous opportunities,” Commissioner Gate emphasized. “By providing formal education programs and operational training, we equip inmates with the skills and knowledge needed to pursue meaningful careers upon their release.”


The Field Day event showcased various educational initiatives and training programs aimed at preparing inmates for successful reintegration into society.
