The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched a manhunt for a six-man gang that stormed a homestead in Impali, Shurugwi, and got away with US$3,384 in cash during an early morning raid on January 20.

Speaking to Great Dyke News ZRP spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the gang, dressed in black and with faces covered by potato sacks, ambushed the homestead just as Sandra Zhou (30) had left to take her children to school. They overpowered the maid, Vimbai Mwenya (20), forcing her inside at gunpoint.

He said armed with a suspected pistol and machete, the robbers broke into the bedroom using a mattock, disabled the CCTV system, and ransacked the room before fleeing with cash and an Itel cellphone.

Police have urged the public to use banks for safekeeping of money and avoid keeping large sums at home, as it increases the risk of violent robberies. Investigations are ongoing.
