3900 Hectares Lost To Veld Fires.

Masvingo Province has lost more than 3 900 hectares of land to veld fires during this fire season, an Environmental Management Agency official has revealed.

In a telephone interview with Great Dyke News 24’ Belinda Sibanda, EMA’s Masvingo Provincial Manager, Mr Milton Muusha said the lost hectares were recorded following four fire incidents that were experienced within the province.

He however said they are working hard with stakeholders conducting awareness campaigns to reduce incidents of fire outbreaks during this season.

The country has so far recorded lower numbers of veld fire incidents compared to the last fire season owing to reduced movements of people during the ongoing lockdown and low biomass in some provinces.
