The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has underscored the severe impact of drug and substance abuse on national development and social cohesion.


Speaking at a Methodist tree planting event in Mbizo, ZRP Sergeant Clemence Mande emphasized that drug abuse has significantly contributed to rising criminal activities, impaired decision-making, and detrimental choices among the youth.

“Drug abuse has not only eroded the social fabric of our communities but has also impeded our national progress,” Sergeant Mande stated. “We are witnessing an increase in criminal behavior and poor decision-making among young people, which poses a serious challenge to societal well-being and development.”


Globally, the devastating impact of drug abuse on society is well-documented. For instance, during the 1980s, the crack cocaine epidemic in the United States led to a surge in violent crime, family breakdowns, and public health crises, contributing to widespread social instability and economic hardship in affected communities.
