Nicholas Nyakurai (21) of Mucheke in Masvingo stood trial before the Masvingo Magistrates’ Court for unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.
On the 22nd of August 2024 at around 1200 hours, Detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics in Masvingo received information to the effect that the accused person was dealing in dangerous drugs, dagga in particular at his place of residence. Acting on the tip off, the detectives proceeded to the accused person’s residence. They introduced themselves to the accused person before advising him of the purpose of their visit.
They conducted a search in the dining room and found 3 big transparent plastic sachets containing loose dagga on the dining table. Further searches were conducted in the bedroom leading to the seizure of a black plastic bag with loose dagga which was partially opened and placed on the bed. The accused person was subsequently arrested. The dagga weighed 1,8kg and had a street value of USD400.
The accused person was sentenced to 36 months imprisonment of which 14 months was suspended for 5years. 2 months custodial sentence was put to effect. He will serve 24 months effective.
