Speaking at the Zimbabwe Diamond and Allied Minerals Workers Union Congress in Bulawayo, National Union of Mine Workers South Africa Deputy President, Philip Vilakazi highlighted the critical need for workers to adapt to the digital era, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic underscored the importance of digital literacy.
“COVID-19 made us aware that there is a life called digital life. Are we ready to use digital devices? Do we have power over them? The answer is no,” Vilakazi remarked.
He called for enhanced educational initiatives to empower African mine workers, stressing that education is essential for navigating the evolving landscape of the mining sector and ensuring workers remain competitive in the digital age.
