Simba Bhora Extend Lead in Castle Lager Premier Soccer League with Crucial 2-1 Victory Over Telone FC
Simba Bhora Tighten Grip on PSL Lead as CAPS United Stun Highlanders
Simba Bhora extended their lead at the top of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League to six points with a crucial 2-1 victory over Telone FC at Ascot Stadium on Sunday.
The win puts the log leaders in a commanding position as the season approaches its climax, but head coach Tonderai Ndiraya remains cautious, emphasizing that the title race is far from over.
āThere is still a lot to play forā24 points, to be precise. Anything can happen within that period,ā Ndiraya said after the match. He acknowledged that other teams remain in contention, including FC Platinum, Ngezi Platinum Stars, and Manica Diamonds, who still have a mathematical chance of winning the league. āIt all depends on how we manage the remaining games,ā he added.
Simba Bhora’s win came in a tightly contested match, with Telone FC’s strong defense and goalkeeper keeping the game close. However, Simba Bhora took advantage of key opportunities to secure the points.
In a contrasting result, FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza was left frustrated after his side’s 1-0 defeat to Manica Diamonds at Mandava Stadium on Saturday. Mapeza lamented his team’s missed chances.
āIt’s more than disappointing. The boys gave everything, but we just couldnāt get anything out of this game.ā
Meanwhile, at Rufaro Stadium, CAPS United staged a thrilling comeback to defeat Highlanders 3-2, ending a five-year winless streak against their rivals in the Castle Lager Premiership. Highlanders took an early two-goal lead, with Lynoth Chikuhwa scoring a brace within the first 30 minutes. Chikuhwa struck in the 21st minute and then doubled the advantage from the penalty spot ten minutes later.
CAPS United responded with a penalty of their own just before halftime, which William Manondo converted to reduce the deficit. Junior Bunjira equalized late in the second half, and Lot Chiwunga completed the dramatic turnaround in stoppage time, sealing a memorable victory for the Green Machine. This marked the first time in five years that CAPS United has beaten Highlanders in league play.
