Patience Gelly Moyo, a 22-year-old woman, appeared before the Lupane Magistrates’ Court on charges of murder following the tragic death of her 14-month-old son. The incident occurred on September 6, 2024, at approximately 8:00 AM.
According to court documents, Moyo allegedly took her baby from the kitchen hut and threw him onto a rocky surface outside. After realizing that her child was unresponsive, she moved him to the bedroom hut, laid him on the bed, and locked the door before going to the garden.
Moyo returned home around 11:00 AM, at which point she informed her mother-in-law of the child’s death. Subsequent investigations revealed that the baby died as a result of assault, prompting authorities to conduct a post-mortem examination.
Moyo has been remanded in custody until October 1, 2024, as police continue their investigations. Two medical examinations will be conducted in accordance with the Mental Health Act to determine her mental state at the time of the incident.
