Irvine Shoko (34) of Gamba Village, Hwange, has been fined by the Hwange Magistrates’ Court after being found guilty of threatening to commit murder and carrying prohibited knives.
The incident occurred on June 6, 2024, when Shoko visited the homestead of Possent Nyathi (41) at around 10 PM and declared his intention to marry Nyathi’s daughter. However, Nyathi informed Shoko that the marriage was impossible since his daughter was already married. The rejection sparked an angry outburst from Shoko, who threatened Nyathi’s life in frustration.
A police report was filed, leading to Shoko’s arrest. When officers searched him, they discovered an okapi knife in his possession—an item classified as a prohibited weapon.
The court ordered Shoko to pay a fine of USD 150 or face three months of imprisonment. Additionally, he received a wholly suspended three-month sentence, conditional on his good conduct for the next five years without committing a similar offense.
