A fire broke out at the Diamond Hostel on Midlands State University’s Zvishavane Campus on 19 October 2024, displacing students and destroying personal belongings. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported, the university confirmed.
In a statement, the university`s Registrar Tinashe Zishiri said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, with experts conducting a thorough inquiry to determine what sparked the blaze. He indicated that the meantime, MSU has moved quickly to secure alternative accommodation and provide essential support to the affected students.
He highlighted that medical assistance and psychosocial support are also being offered through the university’s counselling services to help students cope with the incident.
“We deeply regret this distressing event and are working to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of our students,” the university’s statement read.
