The Zimbabwean government has extended Africa Chrome Fields’ (ACF) duty-free diesel import concession, allowing the chrome producer to import 14 million litres of diesel without customs duties until December 2026. The extension was announced in the Customs and Excise (Suspension) (Amendment) Regulations, 2025 (No. 279), published in the Government Gazette.
ACF, which was granted “national project status” in 2016, uses the diesel to power its electric arc furnaces at its smelting plant. The company has argued that diesel is more cost-effective than grid power. The concession has previously faced scrutiny from Parliament, with critics questioning its impact on revenue collection.
This latest extension ensures ACF can continue its operations under the same tax-free arrangement for another two years.
