Acting President Constantino Chiwenga has strongly condemned the corrupt practices of the so-called “Mbingas,” a term used to refer to businesspeople accused of acquiring wealth through illicit means.
Speaking this week, Retired General Chiwenga stressed that Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 should be for the benefit of all citizens, not just a select group of corrupt individuals.
The Acting President`s comments came in light of growing concerns about wealth accumulation by a few individuals at the expense of the broader population. He called for an end to the moral decay that has plagued Zimbabwe’s business and political sectors, urging the government and its citizens to prioritize national development over personal gain.
The acting president emphasized that the future of the country must focus on creating opportunities for all Zimbabweans, ensuring that the nation’s resources are shared equitably.
Globally, corruption remains a major issue, with Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) ranking Zimbabwe among the countries with high perceived corruption. In the 2024 CPI standings, Zimbabwe ranked 157th out of 180 countries, highlighting the challenges the nation faces in addressing corruption at both the governmental and corporate levels.
