A man is currently on the run following an attempted murder incident at Mfiri Business Centre, Shurugwi, on 21 January 2025. The suspect, Chemise Chiyandu, is accused of attacking 28-year-old Thomas Tongofa, a resident of Village Mazorodze, Chief Banga.

ZRP Midlands spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said Tongofa was approached by Chiyandu, a man from Village Chiriya, also in the Chief Banga area. The two engaged in a heated argument over past grievances involving Chiyandu’s younger brother, who has not been identified.

He said the confrontation escalated when Chiyandu slapped Tongofa across the face before producing an Okapi knife and stabbing him twice. Tongofa collapsed at the scene, and Chiyandu fled, leaving the victim lying unconscious.

Tongofa was rushed to a nearby medical facility, where he is receiving treatment for his injuries. Police have issued a manhunt for Chiyandu, who is believed to be still at large. Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information that could lead to his capture.
Inspector Mahoko said in an unrelated but equally violent incident, two men sustained serious injuries following a stabbing at Shamba Business Centre, Shurugwi, on 22 January 2025. Rodwell Chiwara (34) and Remence Chiwara (32), both from Mavovo village in Chief Nhema, were drinking beer at the business centre when they were approached by fellow villagers Calisto Mutekura and Tinashe Rambanepasi.

He indicated that Mutekura confronted Rodwell over a previous dispute, which Rodwell denied. After a brief confrontation, Mutekura left but returned later armed with a knife. When Rodwell attempted to flee, he tripped and fell, allowing Mutekura to catch up and stab him multiple times across his body.

In an effort to stop the attack, Remence intervened, only to be stabbed in the shoulder and left thigh by Rambanepasi, who had also armed himself with a weapon. The two suspects fled the scene, leaving the Chiwara brothers in a pool of blood.

Both victims were rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment, and police are urging anyone with information about the whereabouts of the suspects to come forward.
