The Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe (COMZ) has announced that their Annual Mining Conference will be held in Victoria Falls from the 21st to the 24th of May 2025.
Addressing the journalists at a media briefing this Wednesday, COMZ CEO Dr Isaac Kwesu said the conference will be held under the theme Unlocking Growth Potential for the Zimbabwe Mining Industry reflecting the desire to create an environment that sustains growth to realise the economic transformation that all Zimbabweans desire.
Dr Kwesu said, “ We have invited all stakeholders to this important event on the mining calendar who have responded positively. We trust that the coverage of the event will be balanced and provide those who may not be able to attend insights on the proceedings of the event.”
The Guest of Honour for the conference is the Minister of Mines and Mining Development, Honourable Winston Chitando.
Day one of the conference is dedicated to the closed door AGM and Council Meeting to regularize governance of the Chamber, with day two set aside for a Gold Symposium and PGMs Indaba.
“On the second day, Thursday 22 May, there will be a Gold Symposium to be held from 0900 to 1300hrs. Keynote speakers are drawn from an array of seasoned local, regional and international experts that include: Mr Mzila Mthenjane, the CEO of the Minerals Council of South Africa, Mr J. K. Mortoti, the Managing Director of Vortex Resource Mining Group and Immediate Past President of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, and Mr A Sutcliffe, Managing Director, Commstack,” said Dr Kwesu.
The third day is for the Main Conference and the Official Opening Ceremony of the event by the Guest of Honour. Key speakers on the day include Reserve Bank Governor Dr John Mushayavanhu, Deputy Finance Minister Kudakwashe Mnangagwa and Ms Regina Chinamasa, Zimra Commissioner General among others.
The fourth day is reserved for networking through a golf tournament.
Dr Kwesu expressed optimism that Zimbabwe will meet its mining growth targets on the back of bullish performance in gold and coal. This year’s conference will discuss topical issues that include contribution of the mining sector to the economy, local content and empowerment in the industry, energy and financing solutions in mining, as well as ESG issues in the sector.
