All is now set for the Mining Media Awards to be held tomorrow the 25th of September 2020. The awards will be held virtually due to limitations imposed by covid-19 and the need to safeguard and protect stakeholders from the pandemic.
The awards ceremony will be streamed on YAFM 91.8, zimeye, slymedia, 263 chat, and standard online Facebook pages as well as on Heart and Soul radio, beginning at 12pm.
The 2020 edition of the awards is the seventh since inception and will run under the theme ‘Media and mining growth in the new normal’.
Moses Charedzera, Public Relations and Communication Executive for Mejrkh Communications and Media Advisory, the organisers of the awards hailed the relationship between mining companies and the media at a time when the country is fighting covid-19.
“The year 2020 has been a remarkable year in respect of the relationship between the media and mining companies. Mining companies have risen to the challenge of covid-19, spearheading interventions and investments aimed at curbing the spread of the pandemic.
“The media has ably covered the efforts and contributions of mining companies in a symbiotic relationship that has strengthened the national response to covid-19,” Charedzera said.
He hailed the ethical standards maintained by the mainstream media during a challenging period which was fraught with fake news and misinformation following the outbreak of covid-19.
“Let me stress that one of the most problematic issue about covid-19 was the sheer scale of misinformation and disinformation by social media, but I’m glad to say our mainstream media has managed to counter this campaign through responsible and factual reporting.
“It is therefore worthwhile to celebrate the media and its role in information dissemination, in particular reference to mining,” he said.
