Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe Chairman, Tafadzwa Musarara, has slapped the suspended Zanu PF youth league leaders, Godfrey Tsenengamu and Lewis Matutu with a ZWL$ 10 million lawsuit for defamation of character.

This comes after Tsenengamu and Matutu addressed a media briefing where they claimed Musarara is a kingpin of one of the cartels “milking the economy dry,” amid other allegations of corruption.

They stated that the Musarara was working with a clique of white people to divert maize meal to the black market and consequently that he was responsible for the shortage of maize meal on the formal market.

According to documents seen by Great Dyke News 24, Musarara through his lawyers Wintertons said the statements were wrong and defamatory.

“The statements made by the Defendants (Matutu and Tsenengamu) were widely circulated in national newspapers and on many social media platforms both in written word and videography.

“The press conference and the statements were also covered in news bulletins on national radio and television.

“The said statements are wrongful and defamatory of Plaintiff in that they were intended and were understood by the journalists gathered and present at the press conference and by all other persons who accessed the story via various other media, to mean that the Plaintiff was a corrupt businessman who was abusing State resources to enrich himself at the expense of the general populace.

“As a result of the defamation, the Plaintiff has been damaged in his reputation and suffered damages in the amount of ZWL1O million,” read part of the summon.
