A 43 year old man died after a mine shaft he was working in collapsed at Criterion Farm in Bulawayo yesterday.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police National spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, another 20 year old man is also suspected to have been trapped at an illegal mine shaft in Chinhoyi.
“A 43 year old man died at Criterion Farm, Byo when the mine shaft he was working in collapsed while he was inside. His body has since been retrieved.
“In a related case a 20 year old man is suspected to have been trapped at an illegal mine shaft in Chinhoyi,” he said.
Ass Insp Nyathi urged the public to employ safety measures when conducting mining activities.
“Information at hand suggests that 3 people were initially trapped but 2 were rescued. The public should employ safety measures when conducting mining activities,” he said.
Meanwhile two illegal Zimbabwean miners died while 20 others remain trapped underground at Globe and Phoenix mine in Kwekwe on Thursday.
