The number of coronavirus cases across the world continues to increase rapidly as cases are now over 32 million. India has been recording the highest daily increases for the past 1 month. In the past 24hrs India recorded more than 89 000 cases. The country has recorded 91,173 fatalities so far.

USA recorded the second highest positive cases yesterday and the total caseload in the country is now over 7, 1 million. Deaths are running at close to 770 a day on average, and a widely cited model from the University of Washington predicts the US toll will double to 400,000 by the end of the year as schools and colleges reopen and cold weather sets in. A vaccine is unlikely to become widely available until 2021.

Brazil is No. 2 in terms of deaths, with about 137,000 fatalities, followed by India with approximately 89,000 and Mexico with around 74,000. Only five countries like Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Spain and Brazil rank higher in Covid-19 deaths per capita.

The United Kingdom recorded its third highest daily increase in new coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic on Wednesday, with 6,178 cases confirmed over the last 24 hours. The latest government data marks the highest daily increase since May 7 and brings the UK’s total number of confirmed cases to 409,729.

South Africa recorded 1 346 new coronavirus cases and this brings the total number of cases to 663 282. The country also recorded 126 new COVID-19 related fatalities, bringing the total number of deaths to 16 118. Recoveries now stand at 592 904 which translates to a recovery rate of 89, 4%

Zimbabwe recorded 14 new local cases and 1 new death yesterday. This brings the positive cases to 7,725 and deaths to 227. The fatality was recorded in Manicaland province. Active cases went down to 1,491 and the national recovery rate now stands at 78%.

Mozambique recorded 148 cases to bring the total number of confirmed cases to 7,262. 4 new deaths were recorded and total fatalities are now at 49. The country has managed to keep its death toll relatively low as compared to other countries with the same range in terms of positive cases.
