A 34-year-old woman from Shurugwi is in critical condition after being attacked with a machete by her husband’s ex-wife on August 31, 2024. The violent incident occurred at around 2:00 PM at Village Kobodo, under Chief Nhema.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Plaxedes Ndebele was seated at her homestead with a friend when Christine Chikamande, her husband’s ex-wife, approached them. Without warning, Chikamande pulled a machete from her bag and struck Ndebele four times on her body before fleeing the scene, leaving Ndebele lying on the ground.
Police attended the scene and rushed Ndebele to Shurugwi District Hospital, where she is currently receiving medical treatment for her injuries.
Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of Christine Chikamande. The police have urged community members to report to the nearest police station if they have any details about Chikamande’s whereabouts.
The police have also reminded the public to resolve disputes peacefully and to avoid resorting to violence.
