Masvingo livestock farmers living in a wildlife area red zone have appealed to the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture , Water and Rural Resettlement to implement measures that will reduce livestock diseases.
One leading farmer in Humani, Chiredzi District in Masvingo, Mr Kwangwa Nhundu who spoke to Great Dyke news 24 said they are close to a wild animal ranch and their cattle are exposed to diseases from carriers such as buffaloes.
He said they have for a long time raised their concerns to the government through the relevant ministry but to no avail.
“This place is a red zone, a vaccination zone for livestock. If we make complaints to the government regarding things like January diseases which affects buffaloes, we should urgently get assistance since that is where our wealth resides. Whenever the cows mix with the buffaloes when grazing these diseases are usually transferred to cows”, he said.
Red zone means an area infested with animal disease outbreak or the area where animals are suspected of carrying any contagious disease.
