FC Platinum lost 4-0 against Simba Stars to bow out of the CAF Champions League campaign on a 4-1 aggregate scoreline.
The Zimbabwe champions have since formally informed CAF that they played the match under protest, regardless of the outcome of the contest.
This comes after five players from the team were ruled out of the tie in Tanzania after allegedly testing positive to covid-19.
Over and above the five players, three officials, including two members of the technical bench, were also alleged to be infected with the virus.
FC Platinum spokesperson Chido Chizondo confirmed the development saying they are very surprised as to why and how the team results came via their opponents instead of the CAF medical team.
The covid-19 test results were released some minutes before the kick-off when coach Norman Mapeza had already settled for his final starting 11.
When Simba SC came to Zimbabwe for the first-leg two weeks ago, they got their results straight from the covid-19 test centre.
