A 31-year-old man from Filabusi has been sentenced to 15 and a half years in prison after being convicted of rape and assault in the Gwanda Regional Court.
The incident occurred on November 25, 2024, when the accused approached a 12-year-old girl on her way to school. After asking for directions, he forcibly took her to a nearby bush, removed her clothes, and raped her.
Following the assault, he struck her three times on the head with an unknown object, leaving her unconscious. The victim was later found by a passerby and taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The court’s decision underscores the severity of the crime and the importance of protecting vulnerable members of society.
