Four men have been sentenced to prison following their involvement in a robbery incident in Mutorashanga. The suspects, Kelton Muleya (23) of Chief Chundu area in Hurungwe, Takudzwa Chiwara (22) of Dowsom Farm in Mvuri, Edmore Mutandwa (33) of Mvurwi, and Usher Tagarira (22) of Mabvuku in Harare, appeared before the Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Court on charges of robbery.
The court heard that on July 27, 2024, at approximately 1:50 a.m., the accused followed a man who had been drinking at a nightclub in Mutorashanga. As the complainant was making his way home, the suspects ambushed him, forcibly stripping him of his clothes and stealing USD 30 from his pocket. After the assault, the group fled the scene, leaving the complainant stranded and without clothes.
A passerby assisted the victim and accompanied him to the police station to report the crime. Following investigations, the suspects were apprehended and all stolen items, including the complainant’s clothes and cash, were recovered.
The quartet was sentenced to 12 months in prison, with six months suspended for five years on the condition that they do not commit a similar offense. They will serve an effective six-month jail term.
