Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Owen Ncube, has praised wheat farmers in the province for exceeding their winter production target this year.

Speaking at a field day event held at Percyhchard Farm in Sherwood, Kwekwe, Ncube highlighted the province’s strong performance compared to other wheat-growing regions in the country.

Zimbabwe’s annual wheat requirement stands at approximately 360,000 tonnes. For 2024, the government has set an ambitious target of producing 624,000 tonnes of wheat as part of its broader strategy to enhance food security and minimize reliance on wheat imports. This year’s success in the Midlands province is seen as a positive step towards achieving this national goal, contributing significantly to the country’s efforts to become self-sufficient in wheat production.
