Harare hotels have turned down booking requests from Zimbabweans quarantined at Belvedere Technical Teachers College due to fears of coronavirus.
The cruise ship employer of the returnees currently quarantined at the teacher’s college had offered to pay their hotel bills.
This comes after sixty-five Zimbabweans returning from the United Kingdom yesterday refused compulsory quarantine at Belvedere Technical Teacher’s College citing “poor conditions”, and preferred to be checked into a hotel instead but they were kept there overnight.
Posting on his Twitter handle, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana revealed this stating a new challenge has however arisen whereby hotels are refusing to take the Zimbabweans who returned this week from abroad citing the coronavirus pandemic.
The United Kingdom has extended visas to May 31, 2020, for all foreigners who could not leave the country due to travel restrictions or self-isolation related to coronavirus.
