‘Hard Working’ Frontline Workers To Get Free Covid-19 Vaccination-ED.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has revealed that the country is set to introduce free Covid-19 vaccination which will see frontline workers and the elderly being prioritized.

Addressing the nation on Covid-19 today, President Mnangagwa said the vaccines will be state funded and free.

“Our overall National Response Strategy has reached a stage where we can now introduce vaccines as a second front preventative measure.

“As such, COVID-19 vaccines which have been scientifically ascertained to be safe will soon be introduced .

“The National Vaccination Strategy will continue to be guided by the best available scientific evidence and the safety of all Zimbabweans remaining a priority,” he said.

He added that the initial objective is to inoculate at least 60% of the population to achieve population immunity.

“A national vaccine deployment framework has also been finalised. The first phase will see our hard working frontline workers, the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions being prioritised,” he said.

He also applauded China for donating 200 000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine to the nation.

“We applaud China for taking a leading role in contributing to our national vaccine deployment strategy and for its consistent humane policy of treating Covid-19 vaccines as global public goods,” he said.
