President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed Dr Anxious Jongwe Masuka as the new Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement.
A statement from Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Sibanda said Dr Masuka’s appointment follows the death of the former Agriculture Minister retired Air Chief Marshal Perrance Shiri last month.
Dr Masuka is a founding fellow of the Zimbabwe Academy of Sciences and a holder of a Bachelor of Science Honors Degree in Agriculture majoring in crop science from the University of Zimbabwe which he was awarded in 1988, as well a Doctor of Philosophy from the same university which he obtained in 1993.
Before his appointment Dr Masuka was the CEO of the Zimbabwe Agricultural Society (ZAS).
Dr Masuka has also worked as a lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe, in the Department of Biological Sciences as well as at the Zimbabwe College of Forestry between 1989 and 1995. He has also worked for the Forestry Commission and the Tobacco Research Board.
In a separate statement Dr Sibanda has also announced the appointment of Honourable Soda Zhemu as the new Minister of Energy and Power Development. Honourable Zhemu takes over from Advocate Fortune Chasi who has been relieved of his duties.
