The Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF) and Glow Petroleum fuel scheme is set to begin tomorrow with miners who have been issued with ZMF Metbank fuel cards starting to access fuel at Glow Petroleum service stations.
This comes after ZMF sealed a five-year deal last month with the fuel supplier that will guarantee fuel supplies and shorter waiting times in queues at service stations for small scale and artisanal miners.
Asked on who is qualified to benefit from the initiative, ZMF Chief Executive Officer Wellington Takavarasha told Great Dyke News 24 that every miner with a mining certificate will benefit as long as they acquire the fuel card.
“We have been trying to do some logistics between MetBank, Glow Petroleum, and ZMF. There have been some hiccups but as it stands, everything is in order now and l think by tomorrow the disbursement will start.
According to ZMF, miners will be accessing fuel worth $1 million every month.
Asked whether the fuel will be sufficient for all miners affiliated to the organization, Takavarasha said it’s only a starting point for miners not to spend more time in fuel queues for production purposes.
“Of course, the fuel will not be enough but that’s the beginning, as you know everything has a starting point. So it’s a starting point and what we don’t want to see is miners queuing for fuel, they should have more time for production,” he said.
