A Harare man is facing legal trouble after allegedly gifting a vehicle meant for his taxi business to his wife. Walter Tatenda Amon is accused of handing over a car, loaned to him to operate as an InDrive taxi, to his spouse, who then showcased the vehicle on social media, sparking controversy.
The car’s owner, Panashe Chikambure, claims she entrusted Amon with the vehicle exclusively for business purposes, with an agreement that he would remit weekly payments of US$300. However, Amon has reportedly missed payments, prompting Chikambure to investigate.
Chikambure was alerted to the alleged misuse after noticing online videos showing Amon’s wife posing with the car, calling it a “gift.” She claims this act is a breach of their arrangement and has led her to believe Amon abused the vehicle’s intended purpose.
In his defense, Amon maintains that he had only hired the car and did not intend to misuse the agreement, denying any wrongdoing. The case has since been referred to the Harare Civil Court, where Chikambure is seeking redress for what she describes as a blatant disregard for the terms of their deal.
