Masvingo magistrate, Makunde Timeon Tavengwa, has been convicted of culpable homicide and fined USD 400, or face a five-month prison sentence, following a fatal road accident in November 2023.
The court heard that the 46-year-old, employed by the Judicial Service Commission, was driving a Nissan X-Trail along the Harare-Masvingo Road when he struck Misheck Makuvire, a school pupil, who was crossing the road. The child died instantly from head injuries.
The incident occurred on November 22, 2023, in broad daylight on a wide, tarred road. Investigations revealed that Tavengwa was negligent, failing to keep a proper lookout and driving at excessive speed.
