Mimosa Mining Company Donates Towards Cyclone Idai Relief.

Minister of Mines and Mining Development Winston Chitando hands over the donated goods to the Deputy Minster of Local Government Public Works and National Housing.

Mimosa Mining company has donated an assortment of goods which includes, food staffs, blankets, clothing among other items to Cyclone Idai victims .

The donation was handed over to the Deputy Minister of Local Government Public works and National Housing Jennifer Mhlanga in Harare yesterday in the presence of Mines and Mining Development Winston Chitando who was the guest of honour.

Addressing stakeholders during the handover ceremony held at the company guest house in the capital,Mimosa Managing Director Fungai Makoni said they have gone beyond mining in their Corporate Social Responsibility programmes.

“Mimosa prides itself in its approach to invest beyond mining. Aware of the cost of disasters in mining, we designed a programme focusing on zero harm to miners and the community called LET’S GO ZERO.

“We have even gone beyond this by investing in strategic partnerships with other organisations such as the Green Building Council of Zimbabwe for assuming national responsibility and creating shared national value,” he said.

He added that the cyclone is testimony that climate change is real and underscored the need to take it seriously and form partnerships to encourage all individual to embrace personal responsibilities in making sure they are ready for the future.

“Cyclone Idai has created a huge humanitarian situation. Thousands of people have lost their homes in the disaster hit areas and are in need of shelter, food and medicines.

“As Zimbabweans we are well known for finding each other in time of need and I thus challenge every one to spare a thought for those who have been affected in various ways by Cyclone Idai.

“As Mimosa Mining Company we have felt moved to donate towards a worthy cause. The pictures of the destruction have touched everyone, provoked everyone and appealed to our innermost emotions,” said Makoni.

Cyclone Idai hits the Eastern and Southern parts of the country with Chimanimani,Chipinge and Masvingo the most devastated areas.
