Regional representatives of mine workers have taken a bold step by engaging the African Union to confront the exploitation of mine workers and human rights abuses by foreign nationals in the mining sector. 

Speaking at the Zimbabwe Diamond and Allied Minerals Workers Union conference in Hwange, Regional Secretary Paul Franz Desomen reaffirmed the union’s dedication to advocating for mine workers on a global stage.

“We are at the forefront of representing you in many social dialogue platforms across Africa and the world, including the African Union,” Desomen declared, underlining the union’s proactive stance in combating the ongoing issues.

She stressed the critical need for a robust response to human rights violations and exploitation, urging the union to take a stronger and more participatory role in these essential dialogues. Desomen’s remarks highlighted the pressing need for unified efforts to safeguard the rights and dignity of mine workers across the region.
