Zim Agric Show Pays Off For Miners & Suppliers.

Mining companies and suppliers who were exhibiting during the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show have hailed Minex for organizing this year’s unique Mining and Agriculture Village.

This year’s show was unique in that it was a business to business interaction and some functions were held virtually to prevent Covid-19.

Speaking to GreatDykeNews24, a number of the Mining and Agriculture Village exhibitors said they were excited by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s visit at their stands saying they had an opportunity to share their contributions towards the attainment of vision 2030 of Zimbabwe transforming to a middle income economy.

“I think we all know that there has been a lot of emphasis from the government in terms of the role that the mining industry is expected to play in economic recovery.

“The visit by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe to the show stand was important in that it gave us an opportunity to share that narrative with His Excellency so that he appreciates what the Platinum industry is doing to contribute towards the country’s economic recovery, ” said the Zimplats Head of Corporate Affairs Busi Chindove .

She also emphasized the need for synergies between mining and agriculture adding that they are working on a number of projects to prove that the two can co-exist.

“The two can co-exist in a positive way that impacts positively. We are emphasizing the work that we are doing in terms of working with communities on nutrition gardens. We are also working on a significant livestock project where we are in a joint venture,” she said.

Pro Choice Services Corporate Services Director Tafadzwa Chisvetu said they realized the value of exhibiting at the mining village adding that they are excited for the vast opportunity that lie ahead.

“Our business is anchored on technology and innovation, so we are proud of local design meaning that it is our knowledge that the skills which are in use in terms of designing what we make.

“We also use 100% local tools of trade. l’m saying local materials in support of the country’s drive towards recapacitating local industry.

“As first time exhibitors at the agricultural show we are excited for the vast opportunity that lie ahead,” she said.

Pro Choice Managing Director Prosper Muchenge said they have high hopes that next year’s edition of the Zimbabwe agricultural show will be bigger and better so that they will show case their new products .

“It was a wonderful opportunity that the Vice President and the Minister of Health Hon. Chiwenga paid a visit to our stand. We have shown them our support in the agriculture area and the health ministry.

“We hope by next year we will be having a mechanical seed drill .We have high hopes to do each and every farming implement that goes behind a tractor that will give a very essential support to the president’s vision 2030 that Zimbabwe will be self-sufficient,” he said.

Zimlabs Operations Executive Spicer Mujeri appreciated the President’s visit at their stand during the time they are advocating for all soils to be tested before production.

“Zimlabs we are an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory. We are diversified , we test soils for agriculture, stock feeds, irrigation water, plant and tissue analysis. We also do mining tests for gold, platinum, chrome, lithium base metals , anything to do with mining.

“We also do water testing where we test the quality of water for the boreholes, well and environmental water. We also do microbiology testing and food testing.

“We are happy that his Excellency President Cde. Emmerson Mnangagwa passed through our stand.

” We appreciate his visit as well as the Vice President Hon. Chiwenga also visited our stand .We had time to explain to them what we do, especially with regards to agriculture where we are advocating that all soils should be tested before the famers get the fertilizers so that they get the right fertilizers and the right amount.

“We thank Minex for organizing this Mining Village for us to be able to exhibit and showcase what we do as Zimlabs,” he said.

This year’s show was being held under the theme “Synergies for Growth: Cooperate; Collaborate; Complement”, which is aimed at rallying support for agriculture and mining value chains for increased production and profitability.

The Minister of Lands, Agriculture Water and Rural Resettlement Dr Anxious Masuka commended interventions by mining companies in the community at a time when the country is fighting the covid-19 pandemic.

“Where collaborations have been exploited, we have seen mining in partnership with agriculture value chains pour millions of dollars into schools, hospitals, clinics and recreational activities. 

“This year they have been at the forefront of spearheading the fight against covid-19 through their contributions and interventions,” he said.

The minister hailed the relationship between mining companies and the agriculture sector which has seen the implementation of the Livestock Revitalisation Programme.

This year’s show was being held under the theme “Synergies for Growth: Cooperate; Collaborate; Complement”, which is aimed at rallying support for agriculture and mining value chains for increased production and profitability.

Meanwhile, Zimplats won the Mining Services floating trophy for being the best mining institution for innovative solutions in responses to covid-19 and the award was sponsored by Zimra.
