Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke to Kick Off Tomorrow Morning

The highly anticipated Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke commences tomorrow morning at Selous, offering participants and spectators a breathtaking cycling experience along the scenic route from Selous to Zvishavane, which runs along the magnificent Great Dyke.

The tour is organised by YAFM in partnership with title sponsor Nedbank and other partners.

Speaking at a cocktail on Tuesday evening in Harare ahead of the start of the tour, YAFM Chairman. Munyaradzi Hwengwere underscored the key role of the event in promoting wellness and showcasing the Great Dyke.

  “The Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke serves as a remarkable platform to include all miners along the Great Dyke and promote their well-being. We are honored to organize this event, bringing together the mining community while showcasing the natural beauty of the Great Dyke.”

He expressed gratitude to the sponsors for supporting an event that unites miners and local communities in promoting wellness, opportunity and charity.

The Head of Treasury at Nedbank, Latifa Kassim, highlighted the bank’s pride in being the title sponsor of the tour.

 “Nedbank is delighted to support the Tour de Great Dyke, an event that fosters community engagement and promotes physical well-being. We are especially appreciative of the donations that will benefit the Gifted Children Foundation, contributing to the development and empowerment of young talent,” she said.

Notably, a portion of the proceeds from the tour will be donated to the Gifted Children Foundation. To date over 100 underprivileged but talented children have benefited from the Gifted Children Foundation through payment of their tuition fees.

Cycling Zimbabwe which is participating in the tour commended the event for creating a positive impact in society.

 “Cycling Zim is grateful for the Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke and the support of Nedbank. Through this tour, we can promote the well-being of individuals while creating a positive impact on the community. We also commend the proceeds being directed to the Gifted Children Foundation, uplifting young talent in our nation,” said Elsie Mahumbe, the Secretary General of Cycling Zimbabwe.

Portia Chitendere, a dedicated cyclist who has been part of the Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke since its inception, expressed her appreciation for the event.

 “I am honored to be part of the Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke, experiencing the thrill of cycling through stunning landscapes. Additionally, I am grateful for the tour’s contribution to the Gifted Children Foundation, making a meaningful difference in the lives of talented youngsters.”

As the tour gears up to begin, excitement has filled the air, with participants and supporters eagerly awaiting the challenges and triumphs that lie ahead. The Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke promises to be a remarkable showcase of athleticism, community engagement, and philanthropy, highlighting the beauty of the Great Dyke while supporting a worthy cause.

The tour will see cyclists riding from Selous to Zvishavane in three days and covering over 320 kilometres. The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Mashonaland West Hon Marian Chombo will officiate at the send-off event tomorrow morning.
