A Zimplats employee died in an accident at the mine on the 23 of March 2022, Great. Dyke News 24 reports.
In a statement released to Great Dyke News 24, the deceased, identified as Dean Nyamurenje succumbed to injuries sustained in an accident that occurred at Bimha Mine, while he was attending to a tracking problem that had been identified on a surface conveyor belt.
“Zimplats is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Dean Nyamurenje on 23 March 2022.
“He was 30 years old and had worked for Zimplats for three years and one month.
“The Ministry of Mines and Mining Development Inspectorate Department has been informed of this sad incident and is now leading an investigation into the cause of the incident,” reads the statement.
The statement adds that Nyamurenje was a valued member of the Zimplats team.
“We extend our deepest sympathies and sincere condolences to Mrs Nyamurenje, the Nyamurenje family, and to Dean’s friends, and colleagues.
“Zimplats remains committed to providing a safe working environment for all employees. Safety is our number one priority, hence the pain and grief that we feel at this loss of one of our very own. We continue to aim for sustainable zero harm,” reads the statement.
