In a decisive move on December 16th, 2023, Police engaged in the operation “No to Machete Gangs/Chikorokoza Ngachipere/Isitsheketsha Kasiphele” conducted a targeted intervention at Jumbo Mine in Mazowe, resulting in the apprehension of Leeward Chawata (24).
In a statement the ZRP said this arrest was made in connection to the possession of an unlicensed pistol.
It indicated that the unfolding scene captured a confrontation between the suspect and a group of artisanal miners, eventually leading to the suspect’s apprehension by vigilant members of the police force.
