South Africa Stands Firm on Genocide Case Against Israel Amid US Aid Cut.

South Africa has reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing its genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), despite the US cutting aid to Pretoria. Foreign Minister Ronald Lamola emphasized that standing by principles may have consequences, but it is essential for global justice.

The case, filed in December 2023, accuses Israel of genocidal actions during its Gaza military campaign.

In response to US President Trump’s decree halting aid, Pretoria has criticized the move, particularly over concerns about its sovereignty and land expropriation law.

President Cyril Ramaphosa vowed to defend South Africa’s interests, asserting that the country will not be bullied. The decision follows tensions over US-South Africa relations, including the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
