Two Zimbabwe Republic Police Officers, one from Mberengwa and the other from Zvishavane have appeared before a Zvishavane magistrate facing charges of criminal abuse of office.
Biggie Mtopa (49) and Shepard Kampanden (40) are being accused of unlawfully releasing Themba Matarirano whom they had arrested for copper cables theft without detaining him in police cells and taking him to court to answer his allegations which is contrary to procedures.
It is the state’s case that on August 13, 2019, the accused persons proceeded to Mashava to look for Themba Matarirano whom they wanted in connection with a case of copper cable theft which had occurred at Finale Farm, Zvishavane.
They managed to locate and arrest him and took him to the Criminal Investigation Department, Mashava where they interviewed and booked him as an accused person.
The case will continue on Friday 18 October at the Zvishavane Magistrates’ courts.
